We got no food, no jobs...our pets HEADS are falling off!

Luckily, we don't have any decapitated pets at this stage in our Kiwi adventure... but the no food and no jobs part of the infamous Lloyd Christmas quote can pretty much sum up our recent change in plans.

Last week, Hannah and I decided that it was time for us to move on from the Owen River Lodge. Now I know you must be thinking we truly are Dumb and Dumber for giving up a free house and steady work in New Zealand, so, allow me to explain.

First off, the town we currently live in is very tiny. There is not much in Murchison besides a small convenience store, a thrift store, and a bar or two. That, paired with the fact that there is basically no other staff here besides the two of us led us to extreme cabin fever. Bottom line, we felt trapped and had no friends. We also weren't getting the time off that we originally had hoped for and there is too much of this beautiful country that we need to see! We were constantly antsy sitting in our little farm house in the Owen Valley, always itching to get out and explore but work seemed to hinder that plan more than often.  So, we sat down with our boss and decided it wasn't fair to anyone... to us, to him, and to the guests. Our hearts just weren't in the job.

Finishing up work here tomorrow and then our current address will be the open road. It's slightly terrifying having no jobs, no plans, and not a whole lot of money but that's also what makes it so exciting. The next few months will include many sketchy hostel stays, lots of camping and huts, and eating a spoonful of peanut butter for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Return ticket back to the states may have to be moved up once all our kiwi dollars are robbed by NZ gas prices, but at least we won't leave the country saying we didn't get to see everything we wanted to see. Life's all about taking risks... right?

Stay tuned...
